View Full Version : Bulk 1G TBird... 2 questions
I bought a bulk TBird, so there's no documentation.
Q1) What are the foam pads stuck to it. Do I remove them before installing the heatsink?
Q2) I have a Bronze Orb heatsink. The CPU says 41deg. C, but the HS is relatively (surprisingly) cool. It looks like the HS only touches the die, not the ceramic. Is this correct?

DONT remove the feet one the tbird...........
and the heatsink/fan is ONLY supposed to touch the die and that's all.......
they DO sell these (dont know what to call 'em) look like coldplates.. with special square hols cut out and it goes between the heatsink and cpu... but chances are... you dont need this......
hope that helped,,,,,,,

Those cold plates he's referring to are called copper spacers or shims which ever you would like to call them. I don't think they help, but most say they help distribute heat and others claim that they help support the HSF on the die. But the feet your referring to are to do the same job, and yes the HSF are to only come in contact with the cpu's die. Use a good thermal compound(Artic Silver) and you should be fine, but becareful with those orbs, i've heard of alot of people crushing there core with them. I used a Chrome orb for a while with no problem, but I could have just be lucky.
