Seagate Barracuda IV Problems

When I got my computer, everythimng was going smoothly for about three or four months, when my computer started getting hung up. I called down one of my other brothers ( he's not in the Overclockers Forums) and he tried turning it on and off, on and off, until finaly, he told me to wait for Breadfan to come home.


Well, when he came home, he inspected my computer, and found out it was my hard drive.

He RMA'd the old one, and we got the new one and put it in. We turned it on, and nothing bad happened :)

Has (or does) anyone else have troubble with their Seagate Barracuta IV? Mine died and it wasn't even a year old:eek:

I have heard a few ppl talk about seagate drives dieing on them. I work in a computer store and I steer clear of IBM and seagate drives so that no that gets a system from me has similar problems. I don't like IBM drives from my own experence I am currently RMA my third one in a row. :-(

At school in the tech lab, we have about 12 dells, all with seagate 'cuda II's we had to replace about 10 of them within a year.

Seagate Baracudda IV 80GB, had to RMA it after 6 months, the replacment had to be RMAed again after 6 months again. I am losing my trust in them, plus I kept them as cool as 32C MAX, and zero overclocking. The only reason I still get them is I dont have to ship it to them, but rather can get it replaced in person, unlike Maxtor, WD.

lol know you are sounding like me. i had the first ibm for about three months then it died, the second one lasted about two months and i am rmaing it for my third try. umm i am thinking of just riping the third one open and making a wind chime with its platter.

I have 2 Seagate Cuda IVs at home (60Gb) that I have been using in a RAID 0 setup for about a year now and I haven't had any problem at all. I'm getting great performance off of them as well.
I happen to work for a company that sells storage peripherals and I work with a variety of drives on a regular basis. I also monitor our quality control and RMA test results so I see what kind of problems we are having with different drives. My observation has been that the Cuda IV series is actually a very good one. We sold a lot of those drives and had very few returns. When they first came out I would say they were the best in their class. Now, the WDs have surpassed them though. We are currently selling a lot of WD 200 and 250GB models and these are great drives IMO. The drives I would definitely stay away from are IBM and Maxtor. Both of those brands are responsible for many of my migranes in the past year.

I've had my 2 80's (Cuda IV's) for 2 years now. Never had a single problem with either of them.

Well, I've got three at work churning along just fine. One of them is run 24 hours a day. The other two probably 9-10 hours, 5 days a week.

Right now though, I'm considering reverting back to a Maxtor person. I liked the Seagates b/c they were dead silent, but to be honest, I've got some Maxtor drives still kickin' it that have been through alot.

I had a seagate in my P100. I ended up tossing it in the trash, the darn thing just would not die. I have had a Cuda 4 for a while with no problems at all.

'Cuda V going strong. Segate has a good reputation for their SCSI drives so their IDE drives should be quite good too.

Cuda 40GB and Cuda 120GB here....both about 1 yr old...no probs....and Super Quiet!!!
