A brief summary for those who did not see my original posts. I have a computer with a 366 Cyrix processor and replaced it with a 500 AMD k6-2. Well, all went well. I was running wonderfully but seemingly slow. Hehe..oops...forgot to set the multiplier to 5. (100MHz board X 2.5) Well, I set it at 5 and KABOOM! It barely boots now. I don't know if this "blue screen of death" error message might help..but here it is
fatal error blah blah blah
0028:C153F69D In VXD EMU10K(01) + 0000DE3D
The processor "seems" cool. (By that I mean to the touch). Also to note. The upper left hand part of the screen is displaying 450MHz at bootup???? (benchmarking software says 501MHz) Do I maybe have the core voltage wrong? Need to reflash the BIOS? It's an American Megatrends BIOS with Western Digitals add on BIOS thingy ma bob. Pleeeeeeease someone help me?
Thanks Much

Flash the BIOS. Did you use themal compound? If not, shame on you. If so, did you use too much? Hope this helps :)

**NOTE**
I have been through another part of the K6-2 NIGHTMARE and I will tell you now, that chip will BURN TO A CHRISP if you don't use GOOD cooling...let this be a warning!
I'm not too sure but I think the Cyrix chip uses 66mhz FSB And the AMD uses 100mhz FSB so the memory in your old PC is probably 66mhz not PC 100!!
Get some new memory!
The other thing It could be is if you are running win 95 you need the IOS Update from the AMD website ( www.amd.com ) If this doesnt cure your problems then I dont know what will
Happy computing

Did you go into the BIOS and turn off the linear burst mode for the Cyrix ?????
Its the Memory. Im assuming u have PC-66 RAM in there. Get a new stick at PC-100. Then make sure the FSB is at 100.
Then get your muliplier to 5.0X.
100 x 5.0 = 500Mhz

Well, just to let you all know. I pulled off the processor and wiped off some of the thermal grease. Yeah...I think I went a little heavy on it. I have 2 PC133 64 Meg Ram chips in there and tried going back to the 500. No luck....still hangs. Tried at 450....works beatifully??? Hmm..I think I may just take it as it is (alot faster). Oh wait...did I just say that? HELL NO :) Anyone else have any ideas? I am running at 2.2 Volts. Only other option is 2.5. Can I make that jump? My pwr supp is rated at 112W. Can that handle it? Just have my HD,Soundblaster Live,Modem,1 CD and 1 Floppy. I just find it weird she will run at 450 and not 500. Thanks for all of your input!!!

"EMU 10K" sounds like a Sound Driver problem. Creative card, right? Try updating the sound Drivers.
Also if you still run 95/ OSR2 then the AMD Looping patch is req'd to run at 100Mhz.
