HD seems dead - am I missing something?

One of the Barracudas IV that I have seems to be dead. It spins up but is never recognized in BIOS. I think I have exosted all the posibilities with jumper configurations, so I guess it is not that. If I conect it as a slave to another HD, both of them are not recognized in BIOS. I should mention that the hard drive has been staying unused for at least 6 months - maybe it died from starvation:). Is there anything I am missing (can do)?

Try a new cable if the jumpers are correct. If you still don't get anywhere, DL the diagnostic software "Seatools" from Seagte's support site. You can find the link for it in the Hard Drive Diagnostics sticky.
