Is it much of a temperature increasement on the CPU going from 1.7v to 1.8?
specs:
TBird 800 overclocked @856
MOBO: AZ11
MEM: 128mb PC100
PWR: 300w
Thanks.

just a couple of degrees, they all vary a little bit bit if your temps arent to high now a little extra voltage wont matter

thanks tom...
.now, i didnt want to write on my tbird... but becasuse overclocking IS addictive, ... now my voltage is @ 1.75 (from 1.7) and i did the o/c from the bios... i have a FIC AZ11 i reached stability @864 now... but want atleast to reach 900... and hopfully 1000... but anything above 801 is a big step for me.....
now... another question..... by writing on my tbird ("pencile trick") do i still need to put dipswitches on my mobo?? and if not... anyone here knows of a STABLE speed and voltage i can reach??? i have somewhat of a generic fan... but it's not the one that cam with my bird.... its FASTER and i guess it cools better.......
tbird 801 @ 864

no, my question was:
can i overclock my tbird 800 to 900 (or more) by JUST the pencile trick? or do i need to solder dips on my mobo??
thanks,

It's alot harder than just soldering dips on your mobo, there's other logic circuitry required as well. Some mother boards have this built in with the dip switches, but you don't. The only relatively easy way to change your multiplier is to change all your bridges on you CPU.

I just o/c my athlon 900, i did the pencil trick and set the swithches on the mobo. I have an Asus A7V. I am running at 950 at present and am going to try 1000, woohoo.
If your mobo has both sets of dips you are ready to go!
Yeah, increasing your multiplyer is the way to go, increasing your bus speed is not much good, because you also stress your hard disk and stuff. VIA mobo's are made not to run increased FSB. So see if you got multiplyer adjustments on your mobo, if not it's becoming time for a new mobo.

ok.... let me get this straight....
using the pencile trick on my 800bird, i still need to put dipswitches on my AZ11?
thanks...

If you can work out where to connect the dipswitches to do the job, just tell everybody else how to do it. It was only tried by people who had money to spare, and alot of knowledeg in the area, as there were no mobo's with dipswitches at the time. I don't know if there are any links on how to do it. It would be alot easier to buy a new mobo.

Hey with an attitude like that, I'm sure you can do it, so go for it. Just remember to take notes, and do a story for us so we can see how you did it.

Hey tom whats your cooling and core voltage??????????
well i slowed it down to 1102 2.06v and i have a loud ass fop38 it was 2.24v @1199 but i dont like those volts

OK!!!! I'M GOING TO DO IT!!!!!!
i'm going to add dipswitches to my mobo and modify it to allow me to o/c my 800tbird
i have an AZ11 mobo.... i found several links that somewhat help..... but if anyone knows of any link, please post them here.... thank you!!!
if it WORKS i'm going borrow my friend's digital camera and post an article with picture inoverclockers.com (if it works :P )
winterbreak ends the 4th (two days from now)
so i might do it on the 6th.. (sat)
if it doesnt work......... i'll always have my 33MHz macintosh :)

nice tom
Beware: Overclocking IS addictive. Maybe we should create some organisation like "Overclockers Anonymous" LOL
try this link if you want to mutalate your cpu...

hey tom
how far could you go before the voltage mod
and where was your chip made?

Where do I sign for Overclockers Anonomous? My 2 year old now answers automatically when asked by his mummy, "Where's Daddy", and he says "Puter".

He's not an ignorant 2 year old. I aim to have him addicted on overclocking by the time he's 5. Is there going to be an age limit for OA.

I got up to 1016 @1.9v without the voltage mod and have gotten upto 1200 @2.24 with voltage mod and my chip is an 850mhz Dresden "Blue Meanie" copper chip
