For those of you haveing problems with the A7V, From our front page:

Joe found the problem- but not a cure!!!

ASUS A7V *UPDATE* 1/2/01: Many, many thanks to all who wrote in about my A7V problem (all of a sudden, muliplier stuck). I thought a recap of where this stands would be interesting:

The multiplier is stuck at 7x or 7.5x. If I select 7, 8, 9 or 10, I get 7; 7.5, 8.5, 9.5 or 10.5 gets me 7.5x.
Any multiplier under 7x or over 10.5x will not boot.
This happens with three different CPUs that work fine on my ABIT and SOYO Socket A boards.
Others are having exactly the same problem - not a lot, but not 0 either.
I tried all suggestions (BIOS change, mutliple reboots, clear CMOS, powdered Rhino horn, etc) - no change at all.
One fellow had the same problem and it disappeared after two weeks - as suddenly as it came on, it went.

Is this problem limited to a specific rev of the board or are we seeing it across the spectrum?

what revision of the board do you have?
I've got an A7V rev1.02 and it works fine

I have the same problem! I can use 7x, 7,5x, 9x and 9,5x. I think it might be that I haven't connected the multiplier bridges correct, but then again I have done it 2 times and no difference :-(

This is really weird... You could try still RMAing the board. I think Asus will still repair it even if you have voided your warranty, but they charge $40...

On that note, a board I RMA'ed to them came back with a scratch on it. I don't know whether it was caused by me, or whether they caused it, but I guess I'll have to hook it up and see if it works. Is there any way to reconnect PCB traces? If not I guess I have to RMA it again (grr...).
