View Full Version : 800TB or 1g
I thought about buying a new cpu. i got a duron 600 and was considering a TB800 or 1g. should i go with the 800 and overclock it to 1g or something? which cooling should i use? got a silver orb. is the perfomance of the 1g better than the overclocked one? with the money i save buying a 800 i could get some cooling.

Why not just overclock what you got. Plenty of people round here have their 600 durons up around 900+.

I agree with uptown. No point in shelling out more money, when you can get up there in the 900's with your Duron.
another vote for your Duron! Go and tune it up, who knows, maybe you get a better result than with a new T-Bird.
BTW, 1 Gig is always 1 Gig, no matter if the CPU is overclocked or not!

that isnt true my friend
if you have a 1 gig t bird that is made for a 10 x 100fsb
and you run it @ 7.5 x 133 the performace of the 133 FSB is MUCH HIGHER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
check this out here http://www.xbitlabs.com/mainboards/ga-7dx.html
seen a t bird on a 155 fsb @ 987mhz out performing the same chip @ 1050 (10.5 x 100fsb)
and for me my benchmarks are much higher than stock 1 gig t bgirds
T Bird 850 @ 1016mhz, A7V
i don't still don't know. i overclocked the duron to 1g. it runs stable, so far. i am just using the regular orb with temp. dependant speed. i get 50c on it. i don't know if that's ok but it's stable there. to the performance thing now. i only get 300 points more in 3dmark2k. that's not a real boost having in mind that i got 400 mhz more now. i'm at about 4700 i don't know know why. i got a radeon 64mb vivo(bulk so i o/ced it to the normal core speed), 256 mb ram 133mhz, ibm 30 gb, a7v, win98se (again, after having tried me for a month). i really don't think 4700 points is enough for that type of hardware. please tell me what could be holding me down!!!!!!!
Azzkicker: You´re right, but g_neuz was only considering buying a better CPU. To achieve a FSB of 133, he will have to buy a new mainboard as well.
