Ok, trying to get the thermal pad off my TaiSol I inadvertantly scratched the base of the HS.. (soft stuff this Aluminium!)

Question is, what's the best way to get rid of this scratch. Should I lap the HS a little and just rely on the compound to fill the gap or should I work harder to get the scratch right out and hope that I don't take too much of the bottom of the HS off.

Non-O/C'd (yet) Duron 750 with a TaiSol 742092 idles at 27c. I've done the first option (with Arctic Silver) and that doesn't seem too bad.. is it even worth trying? I'll probably want to OC it to 900 ish. (Not a big risk taker me <g>)

Cheers!

I would go ahead and lapp the heat sink ,use a 12"x12" piece of glass tapped to the table and start with 600 grit wet/dry paper tapped to the glass, use water , this will keep the sand paper from clogging, finish up with 1500grit paper, the heat sink will look like a mirror when your finished and for sure use Arctic or ultra silver paste
