readddddddddddy
FIGHT!!!!
just kidding
i was haveing a dissusion with a coworker about witch was better
i say usb 2.0
for theses reasons
cheap
every computer made with in the last year or so has it
even macs have it on board ( at least the ones ive seen)
and its faster
i am however willing to hear arguments on both sides
I am uinformed on this issue so I shall remain without vote...
NOT!! (..ok, so I'm uniformed, but that just means I have more reason to love USB! :D)

I have heard that Firewire actually transfers data better to external hard disks, but USB is everywhere, and just as fast for me. USB1.1 kinda sucked, but USB2.0 is nice.

I don't know much about the subject but I think USB is more popular.
i can't charge my ipod with usb :(
i don't have any usb 2.0 devices so i couldn't care less.
firewire all the way.

Firewire is more stable than USB2.0 and has been shown in many tests to sustain a more constant data rate over large file transfer but 2.0 has a better burst rate and with improved drivers and standards it will become a all around better choice as almost every motherboard has 1.0-1.1 built in that was built in the last 6yrs. And most newer ones have 2.0
up till two weeks ago, all I'd ever used was USB; I started work making commercials at and for a local TV station, and my boss handed me a camera, firewire card, and cable and said "put that on tape please"
thus began my week of crying in my corner at my computer as the camera laughed at me and my case of pepsi
even after figuring out how the PoS works, it still isn't reliable for me: Premiere chooses when it wants to access the firewire and then the camera, then it decides whether it wants to let me have a paycheck or not :(
edit: smilies add emotion, yay! :p

I don't know because I probably won't be using either of them. I prefer internal devices over external ones.

Why do i feel that this stems in part from our ipod discussion?
at any rate, usb2 is more avalible, has a slightly higher speed, and from what i hear cheaper, so it gets my vote

yes this stems from my ipod disapointment
I got a name brand (Adaptec) firewire card, and it worked with a panasonic DV camera flawlessly. Then (since I didn't have usb 2.0) at the time, I got a 40gb external firewire drive. It works like a champ!
Is is possible that you're either using cheap firewire or you've got a hosed up O/S? I quite like firewire, and with the mass adoption of firewire as THE digital video transfer standard, it's not going anywhere. Now that I have USB 2.0 also, I could honestly care less which standard a device uses! :)
My mobo has firewire, usb 1 & 2 onboard. I like USB devices better because almost anything you buy can be had in USB, and usually the drivers work well, and other programs recognize it easily.
Networking the USB devices (like printers) goes off without a hitch too.

The Firewire craze(well USB as well, but USB had been in PCs for a long time) was started by apple, so thats one point against it. Then I have read a good bit about USB 2.0 being about the same as firewire, so plus 1 to USB 2.0(because it isn't Apple ;0). SO USB WINS!

Firewire. It has more available bus power so it can handle larger devices without AC adapters. BTW, 1394b is already out, with 800mb/s bandwidth, :)

Firewire can transfer data over a longer distanc (longer cord) and can send more power to the device than USB (no external power).

there was sposed to be a diffretn reviesion that would be well up in the gig range ( of firewire)
my beef isnt with the power
all in all i would prefer firewire be the standard
but i mean its just not readly avaliable and not really accepted by mobo makers

Now if you could forget about your hate for Apple for one minute what would you pick purely on the two technologies? I know it will be hard but I know you can do it;)
This craze you talk about is on almost every single video camera sold today so I would say it is much more than a craze. USB is playing following the leader in the USB Firewire Saga. USB just caught up and now Firewire 2 is coming out. USB does have a huge advantage being that it is almost every pc. But when it comes to anything video related firewire is still king right now. So it really depends where you are coming from and what you are using it for to pick which one is right for you.
Firewire is faster then usb 2.0
Firewire devices don't need drivers, just plug it in and it works
All DV camcorders that have a digital connection for a computer use firewire
Firewire is faster then usb 2.0
That about sums it up, the only reason to dislike firewire is because you don't have it :p ...yet...
