I am going through some old HD's, I have about 12 that will show up in the device manager and it says this device is working properly but doesnt show up in my computer ???

The way ive been checking them is to unplug my DVDR drive and plugging them in the 2nd IDE channel so that I could just mess around with the drives in windows XP.

Not sure what to do now as my floppy drive is broken so I cant really run any diagnostics from dos.

any ideas please ?

Use TweakUI (one of the XP Powertoys) downloadable from MS here...

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Once installed, you'll find it under Start | All Programs | Powertoys for Windows XP. When you open TweakUI, expand the following branch...My Computer | Drives. Check the boxes against your drive letters - if unchecked, the drives are hidden from Explorer. ;)

If drive is not shown in My computer, I assume that it is not correctly partitioned or formatted. To verify, right click on My Computer, select Manage and look in the Disk Management under the Storage.
