Got my Duron 600, Asus A7V up this morning. 900Mhz at default voltage (1.65). 1010 at 1.75v but WinNT crashed after a few minutes when starting an app... perhaps a bit more juice will do it. But I'm holding off 'til I get better cooling installed. Back to 900, 1.65v now with idle cpu temp around 44C, using a (shudder) stock Intel hsf from my Celeron. I lapped it... it's not doing too bad... running seti for a half-hour only puts the temp up a couple degrees.

Stable since yesterday afternoon at 1010Mhz, 1.80v. Sidepanel off the case and an old 80mm psu fan temporarily angle-mounted in the bottom of the case with Holdit putty adhesive :) Room temp 18C, CPU 46C, mobo 18C, full load.

Gonna try upping it later this morning.

Survived a night of Seti :)

If I eventually get temps close to yours I'd be happy -- there's a PAL in the mail, but for now I'm still running the stock Celeron hsf (45C/113F at idle). Been keeping the room temp down to ~ 17C.

In the attempt to up it further here the results:

102x10.5 (1073MHz): posts, NT loads. On one occasion I got a spontaneous reboot, then tried again and CPUBurn crashed NT in under 3 minutes.

103x10.5: Posts, NT crashes on loading.

100x11: Posts, NT message on load "ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt". Reboot to 1060 and all is well.

Any suggestions?

Goddamn, that's gotta be one motha of a heatsink Azz :-) 20f over ambient at 2.14V, I couldn't even do that with watercooling. Have you seen the new swiftech hsf for P4's and tbirds, http://www.swiftnets.com/MC462.htm - got the link from another post. If I wasn't watercooled, I'd want one!

Still pretty good - that's about what I'm getting with watercooling (37C/98F load, guess ambient at 20C/68F). Plus I'm only running 1.94V :P

well i gues the homemade heatsink is working

have you lapped your t bird yet

i droped 10F when i lapped mine

on the core of mine it looks like black chrome

when its doen right then you shouldnt be able to see any letters or numbers on the core

just shinny

lap you waterblobk too

on the core i use 1500 grit paper
and the heatsink i started with 500 grit then 800 grit then 1000 grit then 1500 grit

looks like a mirror

works great

LAPPING WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'll wait till a get back to uni (just a few days now...) before trying the volt mod or lapping my duron (tbirds in my bro's computer now). There's a great computer store there, so I can replace anything I break quickly. Plus if I kill my mobo doing the voltage mod I can take the opportunity to get the new KT7a-RAID or Asus A7V-133 - out now! (see my post in AMD mobos) Wow, I can't lose - what a situation :P
