I wanted to know if all the overclocking of the P4 2.4GHZ CPU'S are Strictly (or mostly) OEM Processors or are the "Retail Boxes" ok as well? I ordered a Retail Box,Product Code:
BX80532PE2400DSL6RZ. m/b is Albatron px845pev pro. Ram is Corsair xms pc3500c2. Have'nt recieved items yet. Any Help or info will be appreciated. If the Retail CPU was a bad choice,PLEASE let me know.I was told this CPU has a Core Stepping of c1 if that means anything?? Thanks in Advance,Ray in Florida.

Hi rayny2e,

SL6RZ is supposed to be good. And it is a C1 stepping proc.

No issues with boxed processors, they OC fine too. Most forum members got OEM SL6RZ CPUS and they OCed very nicely.

I'm OCing SL6EF (box) to 3.04 GHz.

Try hitting 3 GHz or more when it comes.

Best of luck.

I appreciate the Info. As i said,I'm new to this. I have No Clue on the Motherboard settings,Ram settings,etc....Should I Remove the "Teflon" on the Heatsink & replace it with Thermal Grease,or is it ok the way it came in the Retail box? I'm trying to learn how to tell what Week the Processor is,Where you find the "ID" for it as Listed in the CPU Database. I also bought a Boxed SL6EF. The FPO/Batch # is:Q305A294. Version # C10670-001. Pack Date:02/17/2003. MM# 849114. Product Code is:
BX80532PE2400DSL6EF. Made in Malaysia. Any idea What this cpu's "ID" is or "WEEK". Does it seem a candidate to overclock? I'm awaiting the Corsair xms pc3500c2 512mb Ram & Albatron PX845PEV Pro Mother Board. This should be quite an experience..Thanks for ANY & ALL Advice...Ray in Florida..;>)

Hi Ray,

My one is also a Malay chip with FPO starting with "Q". And your CPU MM codes match with mine.

Whatever, u can't tell how far a CPU will OC until u put it to the test.

Start with your FSB at 167 MHz.

I am not sure what memory speed options u get with the Albatron 845PE chipset board.

Try with default voltage (1.525 V for C1 chips). Bump up by 0.025 volts at a time and test.

For stress testing u can use Prime95 or CPU burn.
