View Full Version : amd k6 550 overclocking
i have a soyo 5EH 1.2 mobo and k6-2 550.Can anyone help me with overclocking it.
The 550 K6 doesn't have a big overclocking room as 600 is the limit.
Your problem is to KEEP IT COOL. That is a BIG challenge.
Don't use voltage above 2.5v for this CPU.
Lap the chip and heatsink (must have a big one). Add case fans.
If your motherboard has 112 FSB setting, try 112x5=560 because it gives better performances for the K6-2. If not, use the 2x=6x remapping to try 600 and manage proper cooling.
yo man
is this a k62+550 or a k62550
and as for the k62 not overclockin too well my k62500
pulls 632.5mhz at a multi. of 5.5 X and 115mhz fsb at 2.7vcore and is stable (pc 133 cas 2 crucial dimms)
it does run hot tho. and the cpu's cap is removed I have slightly modded taisol cgk742092 heatsink fan combo on which I've placed a 60mm ys tech fan and I use the fan off the taisol to cool the chipset
I also have k62+550 which runs at 690mhz again the caps off the cpu (did have a copper cap on it for a while ) multi. 6.0 X fsb 115mhz this was stable at this speed for most of the summer at 2.4vcore but as soon as the central heating was in use ( winter )stabilty was lost and I had to up the cpu core voltage to 2.6vcore and the I/O voltage up to 3.5v from 3.3v
to regain stabilty
I allways use arctic silver thermal transfer paste (cause it's the best )between cpu core and heatsink base the heat sink base is lapped also for extra thermal transfer my case has two 80mm fans ( on carriers ) in it which I can change to 100mm fans plus chipset coolers and selfmade aluminium alloy heatsinks on the dimm modules and an extractor fan in a isa socket
