View Full Version : Amd K62 500 O/C
I have a AMD K62 500
Gigabyte GA5AX Mobo
128PC100 Ram
Hercules Prophet II Mx
APUS Coolermaster Air cooler lots of fans on case and in PCI slots and stuff
Has anybody got any tips as to the best route to go to O/clock the chip?
I dont want silly speeds (about 550 will do) I just want to delay having to spend money on a new system just yet, as I Have one of those nagging things that hang on your arm, What are they called ? Oh thats it , A wife!!!!!
Any help would be appreciated
Thanx in advance

550 shouldn't be any problem... I have K62- 450 AHX that runs fine with air cooling at 5 x112 on a Soyo 5EMA+ ver. 1.0
I use one of those folded thin fin heat sinks all the tech sites reviewed about July-Aug last year.... pretty sweet cooler for the amouth of money paid of it...
and the 112 FSB makes Linux run even better....not that its slouch at the stock speed! Man the lack of legacy code is wonderful!!!
ok dude
I have a ga5aa 3.2 baby at gigabyte mobo and if u ask your cpu nicely it'll pull in excess of 600mhz but u will need to modify it slightly . if u don't want to go that far use a combo of multiplier and fsb(front side bus) tweaks to get the best performance hit from it for example
multiplier set to 5.0 X and fsb set to 110mhz gives a much better increase in performance as opposed to
multiplier set to 5.5 X and fsb set to 100mhz
they both add up to 550mhz but the first one is better as it generally speakeing overclocks your whole system while the later only overclocks the cpu
to get these speeds u may have to alter your cpu's core voltage most k62 500 run at 2.2 to 2.4vcore
check in your bios to see what it's running at also you had better keep an eye on those temperatures m8 or you will have a nice keyfob
u should be able to get to about 577.5mhz without taking the cap off the cpu as long as u have good cooling I run a taisol742092heatsink fan combo modded with a 60 mm ys tech fan for extra cooling and the taisol fan blows over my chipset to cool it I also use artic silver thermal tranfer paste on the heatsink base

ok...set the fsb to 112MHz @ 5x and increase the core voltage to compensate. At 112MHz the core should be @ 2.4 or higher...a little trial and error and your set....
My comp is a K6-2 500 @ 568=112MHz/5x 2.8vcc and runs gr8.
