90c temps

I was told that amd's can go up to 90c, frankly I do not believe this so im looking for a little input, thanks.

thats the max staded case temp for a Palominio XP, meaning the cpu will be able to operate at upto ~90C.
This does not mean that the cpu will be stable at this speed, but it will have some functionality, beyond this temp, the internal switches etc will die.
Check out AMD datasheet 24309 for the palominos which have a max temp of 90c

1 of the letters on the first line of the cpu steppings states what is the maximum temp. For some cpus it is 90C and for some (including tbred/barton) it is 80C.

This is the maximum themperature after which the cpu may burn or short circuit. The cpu will certanly crash before reaching this themp.

Most users don't recommend running the cpu over 50C in order to keep it running stable. IMO even up to 60C is ok for short period of time.
Above 60 is risky and above 70C is gambling.

Also these numbers are for the core themp - the surface is usually lower.

Most CPU's will not operate stably even in the 60C range. Mine will crap out in Prime anywhere upward of 57C...

The E-Machine 1800+ AthlonXP machines are built in Mini tower cases with absolutely no airflow and max temps reach 70c when playing the standard direct3D game.

Now thats insane! Talk about a sweat box!

I agree that 50C is a good maximum temp limit. In fact you should try to run even lower if you can. As your temp increases, you will start having more and more stability problems.

i agree man, try to keep those temps below 60c, you dont wanna risk frying your cpu just for a few extra mhz
