Well folks, I finally canned (sold actually) my "old" PIII 700E @980mhz, and went out today and bought myself a nice KT7 and a TBird 1000.
I got the machine all set up, tweaked, and in top gaming mode. Now all that is left is to overclock it! I was wanting to know where I find the information about the codes on the chip...and I am shooting for a nice 1150-1200mhz, I am using an FOP38 and currently after running 5 hours of Seti@Home, my temps never budged from a nice and cool 43c. What are my chances =) I see most people only hit about 1130mhz or so....

I gave up on Intel for now...too much cashola and not enough ZING!

well without the voltagemod your going to hit the 1100 to 1200 zone more towards 1100 though

those are fast chips though

but until they do some rework on the core i beleave the 1300 mark is going to be MAX

yes there are exceptions like nitrogin cooled to temps like 100 below zero and **** to where i have seen 1700 mhz

but thats extreem
wait till these pure silicon chips come out
heating problems will dissapeer thus makeing overclocking better

Voltage mod? I have seen that mentioned...is that a motherboard modification? I am fixing to close the L1's in just a few mins and try to get this baby going :-)

witht that cooler you should get 1150 mhz i would think either 100x111 or 105 x 11

1200 might be there
but i think your going to have top do the voltage mod to get there

here is a link for the voltage mod

That Tom's Hardware article actually has instructions on the A7V, not the KT7, although the procedure is similar.

I don't have the exact URL's, but AMDZone had an article on it, and VR-Zone had some pictures that were much better than what is posted on AMDZone.

I just picked up a 1GHz T-Bird too, and so far it does 1130 stable at 1.85v. It will POST and boot Windows at 1.2GHz, but I get registry errors. I'm also about to do the voltage mod on my KT7, so I hope to hit at least 1.2GHz....if not air-cooled, then with my water cooling rig. :)

Mine is currently doing 1104 at stock voltage, did nothing but change the multiplier to 10.5 and 105fsb....I would *hope* that with a bump to 1.85 I might get 1200.....here's to hoping!
Actually I am jazzed with this speed already, my Sandra mem benches are 493/576 with pc150 Kingmax at 138mhz CAS2....and this is also under Win2k Pro! Not to mention Q3A plays like a dream!

whats your temps?

Temps are 31c idle, and 41-42c loaded, ambient temps of 22-23c.
The FOP38 (minor lapping) and some thermal paste do a SUPERB job. I have double checked the heatsink temps with an infra-red gun (like car racers use to monitor tire temps) and can verify these temps, the heatsink runs cooler by about 5c than the thermistor reading, which is physically touching the underside of the cpu, as I bent it just enough to let the cpu settle onto it (very softly) before locking it down.

Crank your voltage up! My 1 gHz Bird was stable at 1232, without the voltage mod on a KT7-R. Another forum member, kat has the same results. BTW, my full load temp 43 degrees with a FOP 32.

im running at 1233 without the voltage mod (did the mod to much heat waiting on water cooling stuff should be here soon)

oh buy the way selling a plll and buying a tbird is a realy good reason to throw a party think i`ll go buy some beer right now

you might want to look into a better heat sink 43C stock is kinda high before i oc`ed my hedgehoge ran my tbird at 32C full load andnow at 1233 im running at 42-43 full load

tbird`s are hot
