ok, so I have decided to go Duron. What speed should I buy? I would like to try and hit 900-1000Mhz O/C'd. What motherboard would I use?(I need 1 ISA slot) and whats up with the locks? Pencils? I dont understand the terminology... I know what a pencil is, I know it has lead, I know lead is conductive. does that mean they are making marks between pins? or are they opening the cases of the cpu's? Help me please
Soltek's new socket A has 1 isa slot and multiplyer adjustment and it can talk, the bios will tell you when you screw up, cool huh? About the lock on the CPU: play "connect the dots horizontaly" on the 4 bridges marked by L1 with a pencil. When they're connected your CPU is unlocked.

Mr. Murphy to let you know
with isnt the chip that wont go high FSB because they will
it the boards.........but the KT133A chip will let you go high on the fsb
seen t bird running 155FSB with these boards

ok, now. Soltek sounds like the deal... whats the name of the board? and how do I know which are the 4 bridges? anyone have a pic of it? a pic that has it already "penciled"? I dont mean to sound dumb, but I have not seen the backside of a duron before, only Intel P I's . email it to me at Shawn1007@aol.com
ok man
the soltek mobo is SL-75KV2-X which is a kt133 board or the SL-75KAV-X which is a kt133A board the later is their most recent and is the one to go for
check out the review on www.ocworkbench.com
for info on unlocking the multiplier locks see www.anandtech.com
duron prices will be going down right after amd launch the duron 850mhz next week but if u can't wait go for the 700 or 750mhz duron every one I've come across has hit gig+ with abit(sic!!!) of patience
cheers

dont go with that board
wait a few weeks
all new redesigned chipset (the KT133A) will be out
it will take amd CPU's to a new overclocking level
would you like to run your amd on a 155FSB?
hey asskicker
the kav version has just been launched by soltek and accordingly will not need altering as they took advantage of amd's latest info/specs when designing the 133A mobo
cyotfs dude

yea but soltec isnt a brand known for stabllity
go either asus or abit
sorry dude
got your name wrong earlier on
azzkicker I've done oc's on both the abit and asus mobo and each have their own set of unique problems I own the soltek sl-75kv2-x and it's a peach of a board as long as u know abit(sic!!!)
about what u r up to mainly cause the documentation is not of the same standard as the abit or asus boards
but it's getting there dude when the kav model hits sunny scotland the kv2 is going to the bro for his birthday and I'm gonna take a duron 850 as far as it'll fly on the kav mobo
I really like the soltek cause it's a good cheap well laid out mobo with some nice features on it and once u get it up and running it's at least as good as either the abit or asus mobo's I've (touch wood) not had a single problem with the soltek except for the documentation
catch u later dude

as of recently ,I have been very unimpressed by the quality of both asus and abiit boards,,they seem to have as many or more problems as anyone :)

If you don't mid the *slight* lack of room around the socket, the Abit KT7a (note the 'a' = KT133a chipset) would be a good choice - isa slot, bios adjustments for mutliplier and fsb. I know the abit and asus may have as many problems as the others, but for the shear amount of options in bios the abit can't be beat!
Oh yeah, and here's a pic from Tom's hardware of the L1 bridges (the 4 in the top left - duh :-) ):

As a side note ASUS is clearly ramping a KT133A solution as well, if you look on the FTP site theres a KT133a section with the "A7V-133" listed as the model, theres already a third revision bios up.
