Im getting a 800Mhz T-bird later this month. I wanna OC it to 1Ghz. Im also getting a Super Orb Cooler(rated up to 1.5Ghz.) The mobo will be a KT7 raid KT133. Can anybody give me some tips trying to OC this thing without frying it. Cause Ive never done Socket A

dude if your going to wait a month then dont go with that board

get a A7V133(asus) or a KT7A-RAID (abit)

thats there new board
it sould be out anyday now

and for the 800 t bird thats a good chip but the 1 gigs are low in price and i would do that

your looking to get that 1200mhz mark with one of those

but the 800 will do good

A7V T Bird 850 @ 1045mhz

also i wouldnt go with a ORB anything

they just plain suck

get either sa ALPHA or a Orfio

i got to order me one now i have done the voltage mod and im running 1063mhz @ 2.14 volts

im going with Orfio...will heat soke way after the alpha

also just get a good board

i would wait for a few weeks and get a ASUS A7V133 or a Abit KT7A-RAID board

they have a alnew chipset on it and they overclock better

ALOT BETTER !!!!

is there anything else sir i can help you with?

Like what voltage settings....what bridges....what cooling fan exactly....what brand RAM should I get..... all of that good stuff. As I said I never did Socket A.

ok sir here we go
for ram the BEST of the BEST is the Mushkin PC-133 Rev.3 RAM rated @ 150mhz CAS2-2-2

http://www.mushkin.com/cgi-bin/Mushkin.filereader?3a590e0c0e2ab5c427410a000102057 6+EN/products/990595

for the heatsink the BEST of the BEST is the Orfio

http://www.thetechzone.com/reviews/roundup/heatsink/page4.shtml (the Orfio kicks the ALPHA's AZZ)

http://www.overclockwarehouse.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ow&Product_Code=CLR-OFRIO

what bridges?
voltage just set to max ( 1.85 volts) and see how high it goes
if you need more voltage then do the voltage mod

i wouldnt go over 2.15 volts with air cooling

peltier/water you can crank it to 2.25+ volts if you want

The Orb's do NOT suck, it all depends on how far you want to oveclock and how important noise is. Have you ever used any kind of Orb, Azzkicker? The Super Orb is a very good cooler, it looks beyond cool, it's relatively quiet, and it's CHEAP. There are better coolers out there, but you're gonna pay twice+ as much.

I got my 800Mhz T-bird up to 1Ghz at just 1.80v. And guess what? That's only using a Chrome Orb. I have a Super Orb on the way, and I'll be able to get higher (I'm hoping).

There's nothing wrong with Orb coolers. Nothing at all.

Personally, I agree that the orbs suck. They look cool, and are cheap, but suck. Just take a look at the review of 17 heatsinks over at tomshardware. Here's the basics..

Noise: These things are pretty loud, I have a chrome orb (that I'm replacing) and it's as loud as an alpha.. I suppose depending on which alpha that might not be true, but tomshardware found the orb to produce 49db and I believe the alpha pep66.. A globalwin32 got 50 as I recall.

Performance: Tomshardware found these below average for performance. Simply, the heat has far too much distance to travel, first it has to travel out as the fins are on the outside of the heatsink, then the fins .. especially on the super orb, are pretty high. On my system it's 15-20 degrees C above case temp for an unoverclocked 900MHz tbird (using arctic silver..) Various other reviews over the net have negative results as well, one linked from overclockers, I believe the one on why socketa temps aren't accurate, showed both the chrome orb and super orb failing prime95. What other cooling was in affect could affect that, but that's a pretty negative bit.

And ofcourse, there's the size bit.. The fact it doesn't fit on various motherboards like the kt7. Now, if you're happy with an orb, by all means use it.

My personal recomendation is to avoid the orbs.. But, it is your money, spend it how you will.
