After reading reviews of the GlobalWin FOP38 I decided to buy one because of it's impressive benchmarks for cooling.
But DAMN, this fan is too freakin' LOUD!
What fan can I buy that comes in 2nd place to the FOP38 as far as cooling and is relatively quiet?? Thanks!
Jay
I would get an Alpha PAL6035 or GlobalWin FOP 32.
Then Iīd buy two or three case fans - they force the air movement through your case, they donīt make such a loud noise and improve the CPU cooling as well!

who cares how loud it is
as long as its cool
Another option, just replace the fan on the heatsink itself.. Sure, it's the less traveled road, people like their fan/heatsink combos, but totally doable, and that is a nice heatsink.. Just don't expect the same performance from a weaker fan. (Or you could even use one of those adjustable resister thingies (I forget the name) to adjust the fan speed to something acceptable... Concept there, add resistence, lower voltage gets to fan.)

you can put a YS fan on it
it still pumps out some high cfm and is fairlly quiet
you can hook up the 12v wire from the fan to your 5v power supply wire. i did that and it still blows pretty hard and its really quiet and FREE. just a thought
hey here is one that is kind of loud but ajustable.

go to swiftech.com and get a in line speed control then you can dial it in to the minum rpm`s

I thought many fans have a 7v startup requirement. I wouldn't be nice if the cpu fan failed to start because of low voltage...
Did I read somewhere of a way of getting 7v by combining the 12v and 5v lines? Or did I dream it?
Hey
you can get 7v buy connecting the postive fan lead to the 12v(yellow) and the negative fan lead to the 5v(red) this will yeild 7v...
