A buddy of mine has a ATI Powercolor 9000. The display will be fine for about half an hour, then artifacts start to pop up.
I thought this was a heat issue. So he lent me the card to play around with. I merely mounted a smaller fan on the fanless GPU heatsink. I jammed it into my Giga-byte GA-7VAX board to test. To my supprise, I got halfway through POST when my computer hard locked and the supposed-to-be white letters on my monitor were a multitude of colors. The exact same thing happened when I put the 9000 in my A7N8X board.
So, I brought the video card back to my buddy and told him not to buy junk anymore. :D
He put in back into his machine, and it made it through POST. It still shows artifacts after about half an hour of use. :(
My Question: Has this ever happened to anyone else out there? Why does the card only work for half an hour?? Why did that card hard lock my rigs at POST?? How do businesses like Powercolor exist??
