Well like the title says, should I go raid 1 or 0? I know one is for speed and the other is for data integrity, but my question is once the game is loaded into ram (which I will have 1 to 1.5 GB of) is there a lot of hard drive activity? I guess it may take longer to load the boards but would game play be affected if I ran Raid to mirror the drives for integrity?
THANKS
i dont think mirroring would decrease nor increase performance, but raid 0 would give you better load times.

With as little as 256mb of ram, the level is loaded fine, and there is minimal swapping... with 1.5gigs of it, provided nothing much else is going on, then your hard-drives will probably never need to swap!
Raid 0 would certainly make your load times lower though.

It looks like I would go with raid 0, but I have heard that it takes a lot from your CPU when using raid 0, is that true?
It depends on the card. Most ide raid controllers do processing in a software driver, which'll load your cpu. That said, its pretty negligable anyways.
If it were me I'd lean more to raid 1. Just ask yourself whats more important, having levels load a bit faster or having the system still exist after a drive dies?

If you only have 2 drives then Raid0 is all you can do for any speed improvement. Raid1 would use write data to 2 drives, protecting it as if one was to completely fail. if you have 4 drives then a Raid0+1 would be great.
But what you want is Raid0. if this is a game server data shouldnt all be that important, as you can always reinstall the game. And youd just have to backup config files which are nothing large in file size.
