Successful at 5 x 112Mhz (560) with major cooling.
Crashes at 5.5 x 112, Stable at 5.5 x 100. 550-560
seems to be limit of this AFX chip :(

sounds like a good overclock for that chip

greetings earthling
what voltage are u hitting the cpu with ie.2.4vcore, 2.6vcore etc. and what I/O voltage are u using
post up details of the system u have

cheers

FIC VA-503A motherboard (AT style)
AMD K6-3+450 cpu (2.2v) o/c to 5x112=560 (2.2v)
PC133 128Mb CAS2 SDRAM
Maxtor UDMA66 30.7G Hard drive
HP 9100+ CD-RW (8x4x32)
300W generic P/S

Did not need to boost cpu voltage for 560, will not risk
toasting it for 600mhz :)

hey chip...I have theat exact mb and cpu...the best route to go is to set it to 5.5x@100MHz...if you goto 112MHz even at 5x you are gonna have some problems. First of if you have the agp set to 2x and you only have a 2x card you will fry it, and the mem must be 133MHz or better.
The board is great for overclocking to an extent because you cannot adjust the i/o voltage but you can o/c jumperless...also make sure the vcc is at 2.8...dont go higher or you will burnout.
try keeping the fsb to 100MHz @ 5.5x...you may only get 550 on the chip, but it doen't need major cooling, and you will save your sys.

remember...it is only a successful o/c when it is stable!

one other thing...if you have the vcc set to 2.2...it is too low anyway. The recomended vcc on a K6-2 500 is 2.3v
but on the FIC there is not a setting for 2.4...it jumps from 2.3v to 2.8v...thats ok though because the safe settings on the chip are between 2.2v and 2.9v.
if you are worried about overheating just install the hw monitor that comes with the board if the chip goes above 110f then you have to start to worry, over 130f give up!

From the FIC website:
2.4V S1-1 OFF, S1-2 OFF, S1-3 OFF, S1-4 ON, S1-5 OFF
Current temp (5x112 @ 2.2V) = 90F (running RC5/DES)

On another subject ...
So theoretically i can stuff a K6-2/450 in my old DFI g586vps pro B1+ motherboard and run it at 2.5V?
(m/b maxes out at 75Mhz bus ... 6x75?)

well thanks for that setting...as for the voltage...right now I am running my K6-2 500 at 550 rock solid...I have the vcore set to 2.8v...it still doesnt get any hotter than 86 deg I will try the othe voltage settings though...maybe I can get it cooler

as for the other subjuct...the only way to know is try it...in theory though it should work though

hey chip
whats the max. multiplier on that mobo m8 is it 5.5 or 6.0 X and no m8 its not on fic website
I have an amd k62500afx cpu on a gigabyte ga5aa mobo and after I de-capped the cpu it will now hit 605mhz with a 5.5 multiplier @ 110mhz fsb core voltage of 2.6 and its 100% stable it will also pull 630mhz with a 6.0 multi. @ 105mhz fsb and 2.7vcore
95% stable it also hits 632.5mhz with 5.5 multipiler at 115mhz fsb @ 2.8vcore 85 to 90% stable
to get this I use good cas 2 crucial pc133 dimms and have a real good cooler for the cpu (taisol cgk 742092 ) fitted using artic silver thermal compound and case fans full load cpu temp. 47c
idle temp. 39 to 40c Oh I modded the taisol with a ys tech 60mm fan and use the taisol to cool the chipset
as long as u keep an eye on the temperatures u should be safe running at 2.8vcore I've run k62's at 3.2vcore up to 3.3vcore and not cooked them but they don't like 3.5vcore at all SMOKIN!!!!!!!

catch u later
