I have a T-Bird 1000 using a FOP38 on an ASUS A7V mobo. Now, this system heats up enormously (I think). It runs (In the closet :-)) on 57 C CPU temperature and around 50 C mobo temp. Is this above normal? The chassis becomes real warm too...and I'm wondering on switching to a smaller fan because of the noise. Is this smart? How much does the CPU and mobo tolerate in "extreme" temperatures?
Well, that is pretty high, and as to how hot the cpu can get, I believe AMD says up to 70C, but you're not going to be stable at that.. The real question is how hot will it be stable? My tbird 900 gets unstable at about 55C, as for the heatsink, I think you could get by with a quieter heatsink. The key is you need to get your mobo temp (/system temp) WAY DOWN. Putting the sucker in a closet might be preventing the circulation, then again it might not.. Concentrate more on case cooling is my advice..
t-birds 1000mzh will heat up very quickly to 55w or sometimes even 70w depending on how far you overclock the cpu and how much increase of voltage you bump up will case the heat level to rise even farther. Thing's you could try is to get a better heatsink fan for your cpu like the Alpha Pep66 at http://www.3dfxcool.com or get the hedgehog 238A copperheat sink fan at http://www.azzo.com/test2/cooling.html#HedgeHog-A
I would get some case fan as well.. I have a total of 5 case fan in my system. and it running solid my t-bird 1000mzh at 1100mhz
