Received my A7V today. Few days ago received Duron 650 from computer discount usa. When I installed the motherboard and cpu, I wanted to power up to make sure everything was in sync before installing other goodies. It will power up but for 5 seconds and shut off. I thought it was the mobo so I took cpu out and runs fine without any cpu or etc. The cpu is not unlocked. I have a 300watt p/s,good hsf. All settings are at default on mobo. Is this cpu DOA!

azzkicker,
I did have my fop32 on the cpu. I did not turn it on without the hsf. I can't figure it out on whether its the mobo or cpu. Any tips or tricks to figure this out?

yes one side is chipped. but went out and bought a new retail box duron 700 and it does the same thing. The only thing running is cpu with hsf, mobo and power supply. You turn it on and it turns off after about 5 seconds. But if I take the cpu out it stays on. What am I missing?

there is no ram or vid card in it. No hard drives are hooked up. I tried all those things already. I just don't know why the mobo is shutting off after a few seconds when turning on. The asus line is new to me. Can't figure out if its bad mobo or me. Was up most of the night trying to figure out. I did notice that as soon as I plug it in it goes on. On/Off Switch on case has no effect and everything is hooked up right.

gotta go with azz here. running a mobo with nothing in it just makes no sense. set it up carefully and try again. check the ram and vid card specifically. also, be gentle with the durons... they chip easily.

OK, All day with this. I take the power plug and plug it in to the power supply from the back. It comes on automatically but then shuts off after a few seconds. I press the power switch on and it powers up, series of long looping beeps. Nothing on the screen. I read again its says these tones are trelated to the dimm. Ok, I go and buy new sdram, still no go, I go back and exchange for different sdram still no go. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET THIS THING TO RUN! . I HAVE CHECKED AND RECHECKED.

I had a similar problem with an Abit SA6R. Have you taken it out of the case and tested it? My problem stopped when I did that and started again when I put it in the case. After messing around with the board in the case it finally worked fine.

Tachyon,
yes I did. I have had it out of the case and still does the samething. I don't know if its my hardware or what. But I am at a point to where there will be some frisbee throwing tonight starting with A7V. Other forums are showing a but load of problems with these boards getting them set up. I know over past years I upgrade 3 or 4 times a year. And soyo has always been my choice for mobo. The last time I had problems like this was with an epox. I know Asus has a reputation for being good mobo, but damn if this one hasn't been a pain in the ass.

The cpu has not been unlocked with pencil or etc.. Didn't want to overclock until everything was in sync. Jumpers have been set and reset time and time again. Read in other forums that some of A7V have been returned to factory. Anyone else hear this?

This does not sound to good. I am sure you did this but just in case: You did switch the JEN jumper to run off the dip switches right? Other than that it looks like you covered everything else. I would send the board back. I just built a new system with the A7V and a Duron600. Had no problems at all with it. I have it OC'd to 800 and moving up.

jaydee116,
Yes did set jumpers to manual and jumperfree. As we speak sending this board back for replacement. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their help. When I receive new board hope to be posting duron 650 @ 950 on A7V. "I can dream can't I ?"

I recently setup an A7V and Duron 600. Had problems initially also -- same symptoms: on powerup with psu switch I'd get a few seconds of life, fans would spin up then stop. LED on mobo remains on, but front switch would do nothing. The problem was I had the two-wire connector for the front soft-switch on wrong (duh!). Its worth triple-checking it.

my a7v does that, too. when power is first supplied to the mobo it powers on for a second or two. a bit irritating, but nothing more. the light on the mobo means that there is juice in it, not that it is on. it's like a warning light before you start unplugging and plugging with the power still on.
