View Full Version : CDRW not working on new mobo...

I just put my new system together, and I can't get my damn CDRW drive to work...

System runs fine and stable, but when I plug the IDE connector into the CDRW and boot the computer, I get no function whatsoever from the drive.

I have tried all combinations of primary/master, slave, secondary, cable select, you name it. I tried it as a single master on it's own channel--- no go. Also tried a variety of IDE cables.

Funny thing is, if I pull out the IDE connector, and boot with just the power cable in, the drive functions (however the PC obviously doesn't recognize it).

I have an old 32X CD-Rom that works great under any channel, master or slave.

The CDRW worked 2 hours prior with my old motherboard (KT400). For some reason it doesn't want to work at all on the new Nforce2 mobo. I've tried about everything short of throwing it off the third floor and getting a new one.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

OH BTW, unit is a Cyberdrive CW038 (16x12x40). Ideally I'd like to connect it to the secondary master.

The only thing I can suggest is to again try it with your old mobo to see if its still functioning. If it is, you probably have an odd hardware incompatiblity problem. You might want to check the manufacturer support site to see if this is a common problem, or if there is some fix or workaround.

You may need to re-install your OS. Same thing happened to me before.

Hmm, I gave up on trying to get it to work on the Nforce2 board. No matter what I tried, it would not get recognized by the IDE controller.

I put it back into the old KT400 board, and it was recognized right away and continues to function normally. Left it there in that system (for a friend).

I figure I'll go ahead and get a new drive (faster one would be nice anyways, also one that matches my case). Must be some odd incompatibilty as mentioned, because other CD-ROM drives are recognized on this board no problem. I updated the CDRW to the latest firmware to no avail...
