View Full Version : Duron OC help
I have a Duron 650 and a Soyo kvta-b. I can not hit 900 for anything. The 9.0 multipler.....forget it. It won't work. I can do 8.5 X 105 and thats it. Can anyone help. I should be able to get 900. I have tried at 1.71 to 1.85 volts and nothing works @ 9.0 help please!!!!!

What are your temps? Maybe lower temps will get the stability you need.
well i made a duct from my case to my window of my house. i usedd two 3 inches fans to help move the air. I stay around 19C / 67F so i don't think heat is my problem. I think I have a bad duron. I'm also using a super orb on the cpu. I'm very happy with the cooling but not happy about my overclocking. I'm running @ 893 and 1.73V. My max voltage is 1.825. Any higher and it woun't post. what do you think?

I've been doing some testing and found that you can get better results with an Alpha. For example:
Duron 650 w/Super Orb
Runs at 900, beeps and no POST at 950 and 1000
Same chip w/Alpha
POST at 950 and 1000
Temp seems fine in both cases.
Thanks but I think my temp is good, better than most people's i have saw. Unless they were water colling.
what did you connect your l1s with? some people had a lot of problems with pencil connections. using something like a rear-window defroster repair kit or silver pen seemed to sort these probs out. maybe that's your answer.
I have an unlocked duron.
My Duron 650 can only oc to 800Mhz, it's mfg date code is 0050, Model 3, stepping 1. Someone told me that the new stepping model cannot oc much. What's your Duron's stepping number?
My Duron 650, week 40 also only works at 800.
I use a FOP38 and ordinary thermal paste...
When i try to use a multipler at 8,5 ... it reboots after loading widows, or i get a bluescreen in windows.
Also, i get som lockups, the screen just freezes.. and when i reboot it wont start. Then i reconnect the cpu in its socket and woila, works.
Thats strange. My core is very badly hurted... can it depend? ... even, it wasnt i who did it :D
Need som help and thoughts...

Question........if you have a motherboard that has dipswitched (multiples switches) do you care if your processor is locked or unlocked?

You have to unlock the processor at the L1 bridges or any multiplier setting you put it on wont work, soft bios or hard switches.
If your processor is unlocked with the pencil then try the rear window defrost kit. Some pencils do not have the right amount of graphite in them to properly connect the L1 bridges and will not let you up the multiplier to higher levels.
Also if your memory is not quality it will not let you get much higher than you are now. Thats my problem at the moment. I can hit 850 with the voltage at 1.775/1.80 and the FSB@100 but it wont post anything higher even with voltage maxed out. If I had better memory I could hit a 900 no problem.
