View Full Version : 2.4C won't do over 2.98Ghz Stable :(

Ok guys, what do you think im doing wrong here or what can I adjust etc..? My sig below has my setup. Rite now im using 248fsb which gives me 2.98Ghz. Im really upset with this processor. I recieved it with a dent on the side of the pcb. But I ignored that an put it in. My pc hasn't been so unstable in ages. My SL6EF P4 2.4B would do 3.2Ghz no prob at all , this one can barely do 3ghz stable :( . I get blue screen an the pc just freezes.
The bios says im only @ 91F , windows reports 25c / 75F for my cpu and 23c / 73F for my mobo which is odd. Ive tried increasing my vcore up till 1.7v and Ive got into windows @ 3.2Ghz but it froze :( I can post until 3.25 but without higher vcore I can't get into windows for crap. Thanks in advance. My stepping is SL6WF L310 Pack Date: 5/02/03

this worked for jd... increase your agp voltage if you haven't already. what about your ram voltage? increase that too. it seems like you would have a lot more headroom left...

do you have a northbridge cooler? that might help

i will almost guarantee right now that it is your memory. its too slow. you need to put the slowest setting you can in the bios. that sucks too, cause the week 10 chips are sweet. so i know its definately your mem.;)

Well , you make me feel alot better lol. I think i'll just work some more this week an pickup the fastest ram I can get with corsair brand or any suggestions on what brand an memory for cheap? I was about to RMA my chip omg , you like saved me lol. My ram is set @ 320 and my ram voltage is @ 2.85, agp is @ 1.7 I think 1.8 is just too much for the card no?

why do you have your AGP voltage set so high?

I thought 1.5V was the standard.

hey bud, im not trying to make you feel bad at all. i was just saying that your mem is holding you back. i would look at this (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=147&manufactory=1646&DEPA=1&sortby=14&order=1) the buffalo 3700. it will be $124 shipped for 2x256 sticks. i ordered 2 of those for my IC7 thats coming this week.;)

i just looked at you sig again. try taking the 2700 out and only rolling the 3200. you should get a better oc, and that should tide you over till you get new mem.:)

Oh crap, Im sorry, I totally forgot. The memorey in my sig is wrong. I have 4 Sticks of Samsung PC3200 CL3 with Winbond chips. Total of 1gb of memorey. I could always trade 4 of them for 2 x 512's at my work. We don't sell too many slower products such as the 2.4c or PC3500 etc.. as no one buys it :-/ just incase your wondering why I don't get it from work heh.

micamica1217

yeah, it's your memory that's holding you back...
and 4 sticks can't be helping any.

hey, jd is getting the IC7...

To test the theory that the RAM might be holding you back, use only two sticks (in slot 1 and 3 or slot 2 and 4), then set the mem ratio to the lowest setting (like 3:2), and finally, relax all the RAM timings.

Don't forget to "fix" the AGP/PCI buses.

It's definetly the ram. I've tried 3.1Ghz couldn't get into windows till I had dropped the settings also Raised vcore to 1.68 lol... Gona put my other 2 sticks in, in a bit. I will exchange all 4 for 2 on Friday

3Ghz won't even do prime 95 :( I never had luck with prime. Damn man im so dissapointed. Even if I do get new ram that won't do jack sh*t except make my wallet lighter. I can't get 3.1Ghz into windows without raising VCORE. I got a bum chip I belive. I'd like to ring googlegears necks for saying it was in stock when it wasn't, then shipping it friday... ERR I could of gotten an earlier/better stepping. The chip has a slight dent in the pcb. I don't know how to explain it but it looks like a piece of it came off. Around the green area of the chip beside the metal part of the cpu its nicked like about the size of this > .

sad, real sad. and that was at stock speed, right?

man I hate it when I get a bad part.
the last time it happened to me, it was with my AIW 9700...
yet ati sent me a new one before I even sent them back the dud.

good luck on the new chip.

it wouldn't of been so bad if the cpu was stable @ stock and 3ghz but nope :-/
