Just a hint for new ppl like me

This is for the new ppl like me. I was getting frame times of 7 minutes or more.....
I couldn't figure out why since I had cable and I was not doing anything. Finally, DUH! to me. I had sysmetrix checking my email in the background, I have office and xp update, I also always keep ODNT open, and a few other proggies O.o Dumb, me, for best results make sure you have nothing that need ISP time in the background, I am now getting frame times of 3minutes! WOOT!

Well, the results are obvious, but your reasoning is a little off. Folding does not use an internet connection at all while it is running except to upload completed units and download new ones. The speed of your internet connection does not affect the speed of your frame times at all. However, the programs that you mentioned *will* use CPU cycles while in use and that was what was affecting your frame times. By turning those off, you freed up your CPU to concentrate on folding rather on any background tasks. Minimizing any overhead is very important to getting the greatest productivity from your machine. Way to go, keep up the good work!

Thanks, didn't know that, I was going onthe fact that when it starts up I see it connect on my lan, see I toldyou I was new :) Can we get a MOD to put up a hints and tips section for the Folding Forum :D for n()()bies like me, lol.
