I have friend that bought a combo deal from Tigerdirect. What he received was an Athlon 950 Slot A T-bird and the Soyo K7VIA (KX133 chipset)mobo. He installed the mobo, properly installed a dual fan heat sink (shipped with the processor) and then installed the processor in the mobo. Upon power-up nothing happened, no video, just p/s fans and heat sink fans came on. I determined that the proc is a T-bird and AMD says that it won't work with the KX133 mobo. My friend has since bought a 550 K7 classic Athlon, but when it is installed in the mobo, the same result; p/s fans, heat sink fans, nothing else.

Did the T-bird damage the mobo and vice versa to the T-bird?

This is the skinny on the K7VIA dude, It wont work with the Athlon T-bird period. You cant upgrade the bios or anything. I had the same exact experience with the same chip so tell your buddy that he didnt fry the chip all is well. I ended up getting the Asus K7V-T mobo for slot a Tbird support and when I plugged in the chip whammo 950MHz heaven. He cant use the board so he should check out the other one. I am not sure what the problem with the classic athlon is though my board worked afterward with a classic 700? I could be the chip.

Wow! Sorry to hear of your experience with the tiger combo. I bought the same combo and put it online yesterday. Runs like a charm!! Fast. I had the no power problem twice and each time I had to turn off the power switch on the back of my case, after that no problems so far. Installs and runs good. Hope your friend finds a use for the mobo though as it seems to work good. bapa1
