I was helping my roomate remount his HSF, he was getting bad temps and we thought he had a bad mount so after fixing the mount we encountered a strange problem.
His system is a P4 3.06 Northwood, Gigabyte SinXp-1394Mobo, 2x512MB Corsair XMS 3500 DDR Ram, TrueBlue 480W PS, Radeon 9800 Pro, Volcano 7+ HSF, and 2 Hard Drives, WD 120MB 8Mb Cache and the other is an IBM 45GB HD.
Ok so now for the problem: We start up his system and go into Bios, and set his CPU back to 3.06Ghz (he had been underclocking to help his temps), we let it sit for a bout 5-10 minutes watching the PC temp to make sure everything was in order. He then exited bios W/OUT saving which I pointed out to him at the restart when the system posted that it was still clocked at 2.3Ghz. Neither of us were quick enough to hit Del to go into bios and the system started loading up... During the load screens he hit "ctrl+alt+del" to restart so he could get back into bios and set it at 3.06 and save the setting. After putting it back at 3.06 and exiting bios and saving, the system exited bios, the screen went black and it never restarted, the PC stayed on and could not be turned off by hitting the front buttons The only way to turn it off was to cut it off at the power supply by flipping the switch.
After that we cleared the bios by popping out the battery thinking that it might fix things. But it didn't...now when its turned on it stays on in the same fashion being only able to be turned off only by the Power supplies switch and the Hard Drive light stays on solid. There is no system beep when starting up, and no signal to the screen. It stays in power save mode even though the PC has been turned on cause theres no signal getting to the monitor.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated it.
