View Full Version : Allied?
Now i know that Deer, Allied, and other PSUs are supposed to suck. Many respectable people who know their PSUs have said this. However, NewEgg keeps writing in big, bold, red letters "BLOW OUT!" next to the Allied PSUs. All 19 (yeah its not that much) reviews have given this PSU 5 stars. Frankly, the big red letters are swaying me.
Has allied changed? Is this psu better than the $27 Sparkle 300watts? The allied costs $33. link (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=17-154-013&DEPA=0)

In this case they may mean "blow out" literally lol
AFAIK Foxconn, who I believe is the OEM maker of Allied, Deer, Austin, L&C, and US-Can; has not changed one bit on the build quality or circuit design. These are still the worst units ever made, and the difference between them and Sparkle is night & day.

I've read that NewEgg removes most negative reviews at their site, and I've found that reviews from experts who did proper testing can be very different from reviews by casual users -- look at the sound card tests at www.pcavtech.com and compare them to most comments about them.
300 watt sparkle for that bit extra juice thats the 1 im tellin ya its quality
There is a big difference between Allied and Sparkle/Fortron...A 300watt Sparkle is probably more powerful than a 400watt Allied...The 350watt Sparkle/Fortron is a great power supply...Probably the best bang for buck power supply on the planet...Considering how important the power supply can be to system stability scrimping on one can not only cause you stability problems but can also hurt your system if it fails...Do the smart thing and stay away from cheap power supply's.

I have a 450watt allied power supply, I just hope it doesn't kill other stuff in my system.
I have personal experience with Allied power supplys and it aint good...The 350watt Sparkle @ www.xpdirect.com/ with the single 120m/m fans are the bomb...Powerful and quiet...Directron has the Fortron 300watter with the single 120m/m fan for 29.99...It is probably better than the Allied you have...Do yourself a favor and get some peace of mind in the process and ditch the Allied

I gotta save up som e cash first. I owe my mom like 150 bucks for the parts I just ordered, then I'm going for the 400watt fortron.
Ok, good - youve reassured me that allied still sucks. For a second there, i thought the whole world flipped upside down.
