Greetings.

Im new to AMD, and I recently bought a Tbird 900mhz, with a K7TPro2-A. I was running windows2000, and right of the bat I couldn't boot into windows.. I decided it must be a software conflict, so I formatted, and re-installed Win2K.. everything was running great, so I decided to run my scanner to test the speed.

well, the system locked up. I tried to use the power button in the front of my case, but the power was still active, the reset feature did work, so I had to turn off the power by the powersupply in the rear. Now, Windows 2000 wont even load. It get's halfway, and then locks up.

I pray that this is a software problem, and can easily be fixed with a clean install of Win9x.

How can I verify if this is a hardware or software problem...?

Thanks for the help.

Are you overclocked?

not yet.

I did test it at 945mhz though. I changed it back until I could add all of my hardware.

If you have a copy and are game to try, you may want to load Win 98 and see how things work.

Yeah im game. I was going to try that tonight.

Is there any way to determine if this is a hardware/software conflict though?

If you want to research the software issue first I'd look to see if there are any drivers you are using that Win2k doesn't like.

Well in your experience is "locking up" more likely to be cuased by software or hardware?

it sounds like a device conflict. Pull everything except the video card, go into safe mode, and see what you have listed in the device manager.

If I were you, I'd reformat, put in the nic card and the video card, make sure you have all the proper drivers (the via 4 in 1s, etc). My guess is that it's the scanner.

locust,

Thanks man.. I was looking for consitency and you said basically what the majority said.. Boot into safe mode, clear out device manager, and unplug that damn scanner.. hahaha. Man, I hope it's not the mobo/cpu.

I'll keep you guys updated*
