I think there should be like a rule that states either you put your location or you leave it blank. It's just really annoying when you want to try to calculate shipping in the classifieds when someone who has a location as "In Front Of My PC."

Nah.

Keeping it like this sorts the astute people from the not-so..

I usually won't even think of buying from someone that doesn't have a location listed. Only way I will is if I know them very well.

Like I understand if it's blank and all, but saying something stupid is just absurd.

Agreed but that's a field the Forum Software does not allow us to limit.

I have mine filled out. I'm not saying a town because I'm about the only person in this little town. I find it kind of dumb, but whatever floats your boat.

I don't want to know your exact location or something, but half the time I don't know if people are overseas, while I am in the classifieds.

Even if someone said a skyscraper in NY, that would be better then infront of my computer.

That's not a problem, but it's just annoying when there is something totally stupid, almost when members use it for a custom rank.

Ah, its ok Max... I know where u live :D

But I to agree.. at least if you plan on dealing in the classified to make sure poeple can know where you are, if not by the locations thingy.. then at least post it somewhere in your sale or whatever.

The funniest location I recall seeing here is "In a van down by the river" from a SNL skit... cracks me up every time I see it. Can't remember who has it off hand, but I doubt it would carry too much weight with me deciding whether to do business with him. I'd be more inclined to consider a person's heatware or character as shown over time in the Forums.

Yeah that was a funny skit.

I'm not saying that I go just by their location, I am just saying that you should either have a real location, or you shouldn't have anything. It's almost if you put your rank if your joined field.

I didn't think anyone reads the location section - I forget the amount of times I see someone from outside the US being advised to buy from Newegg because they have it for $24.99. ;)

Well if you want to calculate shipping charges you could always ask the person where they are(or is this to hard). It seems that if you want somthing bad enough that you would not have a problem asking the person where they are on the planet.

I myself don't see the need for the big deal that is made by some people over the classifieds. I keep seeing posts from people who say "It won't let me in the classifieds, what's wrong" and the answer is always "Your post count isn't high enough" Are there really that many people who don't feel complete unless they can see everything on the net with no restriction. I've had sufficiant post numbers for classified viewing for quite while now and I still don't think I have been to the classified pages more than a half dozen times.

I had a location listed when I first joined the forum, I don't now. The reason is not because i'm paranoid or to cheap for a rank. The reason is I just don't care, I don't care if anyone knows/doesn't know where I am. I could always put the suburb i live in in my location, but what good would that do. No one would know where it is. I could put Dallas Tx or Ft worth Tx(really I live inbetween the 2), people know where they are. But that still doesent solve anything as it's more than 60 miles from one side of the metroplex to the other.
