View Full Version : FSB or multiplier. One of them is going to go up!
I have an Athlon 650. As everyone knows, these are clock locked. Would it be easier to buy a device that unlocks this, or would it be easier to just purchase a fan or two and raise the FSB? I tried raising the FSB by quite a bit and eventually my voodoo3 started getting hot. So which route is the best?
FSB provides an overall system performance upgrade. If possible get that FSP up.

if you bought a golden fingers device, you should be able to take it much higher than you would with the fsb alone. I don't think they are that expensive. either way some good fans would be a good idea.
i have an 600MHz Athlon and a MSI K7T Pro and a big kooler, and i modify my FSB to 119MHz (119*6=714) my system works fine and temperature is 30 degree C when is idle and 35 degree max when i play games ... i put a kooler on my voodoo3 2000 and i rise the core to 166MHz and my sistem works like a roket ... in the 3DMark 2000 i have 3140. Sooo modify your FSB and your system go uuuuppppp.
So, how do u modify the FSB?
Walter, well you can usually do it through the BIOS. Depending on the mobo you have there are different options to pick from. Some boards give you more, some give you less. In my case I have three to pick from (100MHz, 110, and 115). That's not very many but I'll work around it.
And to everyone else. How much does that golden finger device cost and what do you recommend for a semi-cheap cooling device??? Thank you!!!
Thanks but that was not what I meant. I know how to change the FSB, I just thought that I could do some kind of mod to make my FSB run even faster. It currently runs at 103, but is stable at 109. I hoped that it was a mod that could make it run maybe 115MHz. Now that would be nice!!!
T0}{IC How did u make your FSB go that high??

MSI have a nice bios .... i can modify my FSB up to 145Mhz step by step with 1Mhz ... this is very nice...
Yes, you are right, the MSI K7T Pro is a nice and stable mobo. The FSB setting range is great. The only big problem is that it is impossible to change the multiplier on this mobo (Neither with the BIOS nor with jumpers). The multiplier setting is only available in the BIOS of the K7T Pro 2 and 2A.
