Is this correct? That Socket 370 and SOcket A HSF's are the same size/type. So they can be used on either setup?

Thanks

Yes for the most part (clips may have problems with component clearance) also socket 7's

Weight may also be a consideration, as there are fewer tabs for the socket lugs to engage. (And so there will be greater stress on them from the heatsink.) Lastly, note that some socket A coolers are designed to be mounted on the holes that are alongside the socket on many socket A boards.

That being said, many of them work quite well for Socket 370 cooling. An SK7 would be an excellent choice, for example. I'm personally happy with my lapped V6cu with a fan adapter and 80mm fan.

If your mobo is Socket 370, then use S370 metal clip and AMD HSF, it works great.

The most important thing: See the center /middle clip orientation. The center / middle section of the clip should meet with the core. The location of the core between AMD and P3 is different, so the clip's centerness is different too.

I use Volcano 7+ for Celeron 1.2A... overkill?

v7 is a fine choice. :) Basically a v6cu+ with a 60mm->80mm adapter and a blue base. v7+ should in my opinion be named a v8. ;)

BTW, I've never noticed a problem with varying clip styles (after all, many of these heatsinks are marketed as being cross-compatible for s370 and sA), but it would be worthwhile to check into. However, in practice, I don't see it as a very big problem.

Yess.... because P3 Tualatin have IHS on it. So the clip centerness is neglectable due bigger surface of Tualatin's IHS. Extra observation should be done with older P3 version ( without IHS ).
