View Full Version : Is 300 watts nessesary?
Im planning on purchasing a durron/MB combo from http://ocz.safeshopper.com/index.htm?775 . This kit does not come with a case and power supply. Im gonna have to purchase one from a local store. I can get a 250 watt ATX power supply and case for dirt cheap, but a 300 watt supply and case is much more expensive. Is it really nessesary to get a 300 watt supply? And does it really have to be AMD certified?
Also, has anybody else ever purchased from the above site? How is this vender? I've never purchased anything on-line b4.
The combo is an Abit-kt7 with a tested 1000mhz duron and a cooler called the OCZ Monster 2.
Is there any diference between this MB and the raid version?

You dont need 300w psu for a Duron, unless you are going extreme in overclocking. Using a lot of core voltage at speeds above Gig requires good psu though.
However If you, one day, want to upgrade to a Gig+ Tbird you will regret not to have got a 300w psu this time...
I dont know how much you have studied the current motherboard situation, but I would buy the new Abit KT7A mobo because of its future cpu support.
Indeed I would consider the raid version too.
I suggest you keep you money in your pockets for few days and spend your time finding learning about the difference between the KT133 and the KT133A chipset, raid control and stuff.
You will not regret it.
depends what you've got in your pc, if your gonna overclock, and you have also got loads of drives and cards and maybe thinking of upgrading your m/b and cpu in the future, you might as well get one now, as waste your money later.
The higher the psu, the more future proofed it is really
No ... i am running a duron600@900 with a 250 watt psu!!

YOU NEED MORE POWER
i feel you need a bigger power supply to run any AMD over 850mhz
i think my power supply is holding me back from 1400+mhz and im running a ANTEC 300 watter too
looking for a Y connector for running 2 power supply ATX cords together to plug into one board because i already have 2 300 watters in my case...would be nice

azz, i work in an elec lab at my high school, and on the principal of the power supplies in paralell would prob toast your board. in paralell, resistance goes down lower then the lowest resistor, and current (amps) doubles. i dont think 2 300 watters would hold. u'd prob har a POP a see a huge chucnk of PCB go flying, aloing with the 2 power supplys going. i've heard of 500watt power supplies. BTW, think of how much the "Intel Mistake" uses for power. i dont think 300w is enuff for that power-hungry waste of cash
