I have a strange problem that I thought I would have fixed, but it's not. See my setup in my signature...
It all started with a few random HD hangs and a few BSOD errors (STOP 0x00000077 - KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR). I would reboot and everything would be fine. I did not change any BIOS settings, flash my BIOS, add/remove any hardware/software, or make any changes when this started happening. The last time it happened, I rebooted and may machine no longer booted. Now when I boot up, my machine hangs on Detecting IDE devices for about 20 seconds, then changes to the system summary screen. After another 20 secs of hanging, the screen changes to the IRQ summary info and hangs for about 1 minute. After that it hangs with a flashing cursor for a long time (I left it on for hours). My first assumption was a problem with my HDs. I tried [2] HDs with OSs and a drive w/o an OS. They exibit the exact same problem. I changed cables. Same problem. I attached only my CDROM drive and used the XP CD to boot with. after about 15mins, the XP install booted and the files that get loaded take about 1 minute each. SUPER slow.
I now decided it was a problem with the EIDE controller on the motherboard. I cleared the BIOS. Did the BIOS defaults/setup defaults and still had the same problem. I RMA's the A7N8X and received a new Rev 2.0 yesterday and I have the same problem. ARRG!!!
The only thing left is my XP2400+ CPU, my Samsung 512MB DDR 2700 memory and my GF4Ti4600 vid card.
I brought my RAM to work today and I popped it in a P4 machine that had DDR2100 memory in it and it seems to be working fine. I am currently trying to run memory tests on it to see if it is stable. So far it looks good though....ARRRG!
I cannot imagine it being a video problem...and kinda weird for a CPU problem. I am trying to round up a CPU to test on my board, but I haven't been too lucky yet.
Anyone have any ideas?
