I have an AMD Athlon 600mhz, 256mb PC-100RAM,NVidia card-sorry but dont know what board yet. 512k cache. I ve got the stock fans(1 exhausting the heatsink & processor/120mm, and 1 exhausting the PS/80mm. But have 2 120mm to add to suck in the bottom and 2 80mm to add to the rear to help the other 2 blow out. I taked to a guy who's job is actually computer repair and hes quite good-i think-, but he said that all I should OC my 600 to is about 700, cause after that my cache will get so small that the extra speed will not compensate for the cache running at like 1/3 speed or so. That doesnt sound right. I want MORE speed than that, i saw a plenty of guys on the database that were easily running 800-900+ some even at 1100!! maybe by lapping but still I want more than 700 out of it-id like 8 and would even try 9-whad be the best way-jumper soldering or a goldfinger or what? HELP HELP HELP

if you have a SLOT-A "classic" athlon 600 you will run into problems after 700 because the cache ram runs at a divisor of the overall chip speed, the slower on PCB cache of the "classic" athlons requires a divisor change to slow it down if you really want to overclock high, ive seen a way to change the resistors to change the cache divisor, but i thought the newer GFDs could do it without modifying the chip...you should check around the net for more info on that, or maybe someone here could shed some more light.

thans Big MIke. If you or anyone could go to www6.tomshardware.com and look at the skematic for the soldering patterns for the 1000 ohm resistors, and tell me if this is the way to slow down my cache, so I can do some serious OCing-id like 850-900. It shows all of the multpliers for the various mhz's that you want also the voltage.
