Hello all,
am new to the boards thus i r teh "n00b"

Im having a comp sent to me and I was wondering how i should go about OCing it.

CPU is a barton 2500+

mobo is not the greatest, a Asrock K7S8X (low end asus) with a Sis746FX chipset which does not allow changing of the multi or core voltage.. :mad: does however allow FSB tinkering

Cooling will most likely be a Volcano7+ copper or the like.
Ram = pc3200 Samsung

My Question is how far can i go with the FSB without being able to change core voltage? I would like to avoid frying my PCI's if poss :)

you should be able to go to 180MHz fsb max, but only if the AGP and PCI buses stay below 72/36. you should be able to go to at least 1950MHz

I would say 38/76 would probably be ok.

and you should be able to raise the chips voltage by modding the bridges on the chip itself, if its like tbreds. or if you get really daring, you can hard code a higher multi

edit: saw your a noob, maby not a good idea to mod bridges just yet. depends how still your hands are and how good your eyes are

You should be able to get to 190Mhz FSB with a 1/5 divider keeping your PCI bus at 38Mhz, as q149 said.

Thanks for the input guys.

I think ill try taking it up to 190.

Would it be safe to run it A-sync, and have the ram at 200? or would it just be better to leave it at 190 as well?
