How many heatsinks will 3g of Arctic Silver 3 last for?
Thanks.

20+ applications or so would be a rough estimate. You don't need a lot for each application.

That many? If you go by AS's instructions, seems to be alot less than that, what with having to rub it into the HSF to fill all the surface imperfections

you need more on P4's :D

Yeah that's true too ;) Same goes for on your NB and/or GPU
They're alot of surface area too

I barely used any of my ceramique on my 1700+
AS3 spreads easier than ceramique........

I've used my 3 gram tube on a dozen machines now and I've still got what seems like half a tube left. Granted, I haven't used this tube to do my NB or to rub it into my waterblock (that killed the previous tube)

you could do 50+ XP's i'd say.
around 30 to 40, maybe even up to 50 on Athlon/XPs

^^
What they said, more on AMD's and less on Intel's.
But regardless, you don't have to put on a thick layer, so I would say about 20-25 P4 and 40-50 XP/MP/Barton/Duron

what's this about rubbing it on heatsinks and waterblocks? I just apply a thing layer to the processor core....am I missing something here?

I would have thought ceramique would have been easier. Looks smoother then ASIII.

You shouldnt waste too much of the AS3 on the bottom of the HS. I usually apply to the CPU first and wipe the excess on the HS to save a little of my precious As3.

ceramique strings. it's like when your making candy and when it's almost done, the candy like gets super sticky and makes little strings that go everywhere. it's like that, but gooey not sticky if that makes any sense

All I know is that applying to the core is all I've ever done, and its given me good temps

Ceramique does a crazy color change too
Ceramique is sticky, I found. It doesn't have the consistancy of mayonaise, like AS3. More along the lines of peanut butter. :)

that's pleasant :p

You might need more for some things but for an XP core you just need a very thin layer on the core. I use a thin plastic bag and stick my finger in the corner and put some as3 on the bag then put a very thin even layer on the core. I first clean off the core, heatsink, and bag with alcohal.

Save time and use your finger next time :)
I used to treat my cpu and TIM as a level three biohazard and if i touched any of it it would be impure and such.. but now i just give the hs and die a quick rub of alcohol (IF its dirty...) and then put a dab of as3 spread it evenly on the core and seat the heatsink.

With my personal experience I would say that you could get anywhere from 15-25 applications out of it depending on how liberal you are with it.
