Currently trying to flesh out my new rig, my 1.4@1.51 T-bird is starting to show it's age. From what I've read on these forums and others, I think my current specs will do fine, but any input would be much appreciated. :)
Mobo: Abit IC7 or Asus P4C800/P4P800
Cpu: P4 2.6 C
Heatsink: Thermalright SLK900(U) w/ Thermaltake Smartfan 2
Memory: 2x OCZ 256mb PC3500
Case: Antec 1040IIB w/400W PS
Hoping to hit 3.6 with this rig. *keeps fingers crossed*

make sure that case has a true antec 400watt supply or get a case without a ps and buy a fortron or antec separately

Yah, the case includes the stock Antec PS.

what display card u planning to get?:) neway, if u're planning to hit 3.6 on air, 2.6c or 2.8c will do the job easier. :p
3.6 stable on air is a little optimistic. I've got a 3.0C and I can barely do 3.6 stable on water with HT on using reasonable voltages. Shoot for 3.5ish and you'll be happy.

I'm keeping my OC'ed Ti4200 from my old rig for now. Looking at a 9700 sometime september for HL2 and Doom3.
I was looking at the Vantec 92mm Tornado to go with the heatsink, but I don't think I could stand 60 dB's 8 ft away from my bed.
As for hitting 3.6, it'd be nice but I wouldn't complain bout 3.4 or 3.5 either. :)
switch from the SLK-900U to the MCX-4000 (http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=120199&Product_Code=50792) the 900 does not make full contact with the IHS and is therefore not working at it's maximum efficiency, The MCX-4000 is by far the best PIV HS
What do you think... is the P4P800 Deluxe worth $50 CDN more then the P4P800???
P4P800D: http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4P800%20Deluxe&langs=01
P4P800: http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=P4P800&langs=01
get the p4C800 it's alot better than the P series
how do you figure?? Just because of PAT?

The 875 has less issues than the 865 and DCDDR simply operates more easily, and the 875s seem to OC a bit better
evidence? from the hexus review the p4p800 d demolished any i875
How can the i865 "demolish" a i875??? They are basically the same except the i865 uses rejected i875 chips.
well perhaps PAT limits the performance of the i875, cause Ive seen 3-4 reviews on the P4P800D and it o/c just as high as the p4c800 and worked faster at the same settings as the p4c800.... therefore one would be inclined to believe its better!

OCed mobos at stock settings.
ex. when set at 200fsb the mobo is realy at 203fsb.
yes, the p4p800 at 203fsb will beat out any mobo at 200fsb.

Maybe, but a tiny increase in benchmarks is hardly "demolishing". The i865 is a great buy is you're on a tight budget, since they will generally do almost as good as the i875, but I've also seen other reviews where the i865 didn't do quite so well.
3 fsb would show that much improvement over the p4c800... even if it did, would suggest that they are equal if they were both at 200fsb, even though the p4p800 doesnt have pat...

This is what I ended up getting. Should be up and running by middle of the week hopefully. Not much different from what I orignally posted:
Mobo: Asus P4P800 (non deluxe)
CPU: 2.6 C
Ram: 1 GB, (2x512MB) OCZ PC3500 Basic
Wish me luck with o/cing! :D

reading just ONE review and running with the info, is not the smartest thing to do.
I try to read at least 4 or 5 reviews (all with a grain of salt) and most of all, I try to read what each is NOT telling me.
if you want to save some money then a 865 (rejected 875)chipset may be right for you.
you want the best and honest opinions, you have come to the right place.
we don't get any $$$ for advertising, promoting, or telling you some BS, just to suck you into a site.
we tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly, for the parts you are looking at.
and what are most peeps telling you?
875 chipset is what you want for OCing.
be careful at looking at benchmarks....there is always things they DON'T tell you.
