Suggestions on a good LCD of 17 or 18" that has dvi and also will game decent , does not have to be excellent at gaming but at least allow me to game occasionally as I do, budget of say 575 to 600 US or about 800 tops Canadian

I did the research. Get an NEC 1760 from newegg. Get the 1760v if you want to save some money or the 1760NX if you want DVI input. I went with the NX. Read the reviews there, I won't repeat or argue with them. :p

The NEC 1760 series has 16ms combined response time which equates to 62.5FPS(1000/16) capable. A standard 25ms response LCD equates to 40FPS and blurring.

If you are a gamer you have to consider the response time.

thanks for your feedback, I do want to be able to game a bit, and from what I understand the 16ms response time is pretty much the best out correct. I will be looking into what you suggested.

Another question , it seems the models you suggested have a max refresh rate of 60 at 1280x1024, what is max refresh for 1024x768 I hope at least 75 or 85, and I wish 1280x1024 was higher like 70 as I would like to start gaming at that res

hmm, with 16ms response time all rates above 62.5 are useless... my hitachi cml174 games good at 1280x1024, absolutely no compliants even at 75Hz, besides its worth 475 at monitorsdirect.com

i even dare to say its worth even for serious gamers (like me heheeh), im willing to give some fps for 0 eyestrain like now
