Okay, I was trying to help out a friend who's computer stopped working. Once I got the case open, I found something odd. His MB had slots for both SD & DDR ram (not the unusual part), and he had a stick in the DDR slot, and also one in the SD slot.

The "stick" in the SD slot, wasn't ram. It was this:

I don't know what this is...anyone have any ideas what it is, or why it was plugged into an SD Ram slot?

Any information would be appreciated. (PS, sorry bout making the image so big, I don't have any image editing software with me to shrink it)

Hm....I've never seen a board require something like that before. I'm not about to pull it out though, sounds like it's probably important.

you see that allot in older motherboards. Used to you had to have all the ram slots full for the motherboard to function, that filled up the empty space.

This isn't a perticularily old MOBO though, it's for a t-bird.

And, the ram slots aren't all full. Only 2 out of 4 are, and this item is wide enough that it prevents use of the 2 open slots.
