Hi y'all!
I've fooled around and oc'd with Intel CPU's since my first pc 7 years ago. Now I'm finally considering getting something else. I just wanna know a couple of things first.
1 If you have a motherboard like the ABIT kt7a Where you can change the multiplier from BIOS.
Does this mean you don't have to use a defrosting pen to close the bridges on the cpu to be able to change the multiplier?
2 Does anyone know what intervals that the ABIT kt7a will let you change the FSB?
3 Are there still problems with compability with the AMD cpu or is that a thing of the past?
Thanx
MArtin
U have to connect the L1 bridges no matter what. Its fairly easy.

Aha, I think I understand. If I connect ALL of the bridges the motherboard will be able to close the ones that needs to be closed to get a certain multiplier? I thought you had to do some scratching everytime you wanted to change the multiplier.
Please tell me if I'm right or if I'm just fooling myself?

well guy,
ya only want to connect the L1 bridges...........after that the abit Kt7a will be able to set the multiplier to the one that you want .................I've got a abit Kt7-raid with a duron 650@1ghz ................and loving it
2. 1 hz
3. I haven't found any problems myself - I used to believe that as well.
Heck my first Intel CPU as in 1978. My Duron 700 screams at 1055 - and I can replace it if I screw up for $50.
Use the defroster repair kit and lightly sand the L1's with 600 grit sandpaper. I used a tiny brush and a magnifier. Until I scrubbed off the traces a little it wouldn't stick. You can clean it off with acetone or lacquer thinner.
take a look at azzkicker`s two post`s that should be all the convinceing you need
my 1ghz kick`s the **** out of p4 except on memory and from what i understand the new266 mb will take care of that
Just look at pricewatch and see what you can get for your money compared to intel prices
Would someone please tell me why you all insist on the conductive paint method? Bro, I used a pencil on mine, have remove and replaced the hsf 3 times, and the graphite is holding just fine. connect each of the 4 L1 bridges, and you can multiply at whatever your mobo supports. A mechanical pencil is all you need.

IS the defrosting kit the same as a conductive pen?
Well I have never had an intell chip I am a faithfull amd dude lol
Here is why i say use amd.
First why pay more for a slower chip P3 sucks look at the bench mark tests.
P4 had or has chip set problems in the higher ghz mb
And lastly Most of the world is now convinced amd is a player we all cant be wrong

if intel had faster and cheaper processors, i would buy intel (gulp!).
but amd has faster and cheaper (thankfully!) processors.
pent 4 1.4ghz=$552
pent 3 1ghz= $311
tbird 1.2ghz=$263
i would take the tbird anyway, anyhow
get it?

Thanx everyone!
Sometimes the easiest things can become very difficult and thats when chatboards kick as!
I'll be on my way to get me some sweet luvin AMD action first thing tomorrow morning thanx to y'all!
Tack så mycket, lycka till!

If intel is so much slower than amd then why does it kick the **** out of t-bird in Quake III, mhz for mhz of course. and all those benchmarks u are talking about, aka sisoft sandra are just theoretical benchmarks. I would take an intel 1ghz over a tbird 1ghz anyday, but since amd is so much cheaper thats all i can afford.

Because quake has SSE instructions for intel chips dumbass.............overall amd kicks the dog **** out of intel. Live and learn, try a real 3d program to test your argument. one that doesn't use special instructions to make quake faster.
Well buddy i have a 1ghz tbird and a 1ghz intel both with the same video card and the tbird kicks the **** out of my intel in the benchmarks but the intel wins in all the games i play. I would like to know which games you might be refering to that amd gets more fps.

have you ever rendered a huge 3d file in 3dstudio or any other 3d program??? compare and get back to me and you will see the difference.
