This is actually a general question about raid. I have done some research but not sure about some points. I am considering the ABIT KT7a board with onboard Raid. If I understand correctly if you hook 2 ATA 100 drives on Raid primary, say one is 80 gig and the other is 40 gib. You will get a 40 Gig drive with essentially Ata 200 performance? Am I on the right track there?
Second point. Will I be able to partition these drives?
You need to have two identical drives - same size, etc.
It is a little tricky, but yes you can partition the drive. I did it. I have a 2.5Gb and a 87Gb partition. You may need to download the most recent version of fdisk.
Performance is not double ATA100, but very worth the effort.

so if you hook up 2 80gb drives, you will only have 80 gigs thru raid and not 160?
The RAID controller will set the drive size to the smallest drive. If you have an 80 gig drive and a 40 gig drive it will only recognize 40 gigs from each drive. The resulting drive in RAID 0 will be 80 gigs. Due to bandwidth limitations it will not perform like an ATA200 drive. Depending on your file sizes it may be significantly faster than a single ATA100 drive. Check Promise’s Web Site. I believe they still have an excellent FAQ on RAID.

So if its 80 gb and 80gb , it will be 160 gb?
