Ok, I have had my new setup for a little while, about 2 weeks. I had a problem with my 2400+ running at 100mhz fsb causing it to report as a 1800+...called the place I ordered from and they told me to change the fsb. Did that and it's been working fine. All of a sudden I boot it this morning and it's back to an 1800+ I reboot and it wouldn't report at all. I reset the cmos on the mobo and got it to boot, went into the setup and changed the fsb back to 166, after I do that it stops reporting all together and I have to reset the cmos again. I got it to work after reseting the cmos.
Thanks for any help.
Lets see some spec's on your Rig.
What motherboard, ram, and other periphreals are you running?

Sorry forgot all that:
Pc Chips m848lu SiS746 Northbridge and SiS963L Southbridge
640 DDR 2100 generic ram...just needed something cheap for the time being
gforce fx 5200
40 gig maxtor
52x/24x/52x burner
as for periphreals the only thing I got "special" is a dual optical logitech mouseman
Never heard of the motherboard...do you happen to know what chipset it runs off of? I.E. KT133a, KT333, KT400, nForce2, etc...

If you are trying to set it at 166 when the default is actually at 133 then what is happening is that it is resetting itself to safe mode of 100FSB because at 166 you are trying to overclock it too far for the system and set up you have.
What mobo , proc, mem, & so on look at my sig below .
You need to do a little better then that , look @ my sig below.
(sorry i though it didnt post the first time)

Uhh...only thing I found on it was 333 support. I am not too familiar with this board but like the ram it was something to hold me over since my other one got flooded when I was on my way to a lan and it started raining
I think that OC Detective is right. Your system with PC2100 and that odd little motherboard you got there probably just can't run at a 166Mhz FSB. I would try to run a 150Mhz FSB with relaxed timings and see if that will work for you.

Guess that means I need a new board then. I can't set it to 133 at all. It goes from 100 - 166 nothing inbetween. The people I ordered from told me to set it to 166 and it has been running fine at 166 for 2 weeks. hrmm....
Thanks for the help anyway.
Also, the mobo says its rated for 333 fsb so I couldn't see why it wouldn't run at 166 ???
You don't have an option for a 133Mhz FSB?

nope :(
there must be a setting that will give you a few choises of mhz or bus speed 100/133/166.?

Well...I went back in and I was changing the cpu freq...they had another option in ther for cpu overclocking freq that only let me turn it up to 132mhz..did that and its reporting a 2400+ again. Works for me I guess.
Thanks for your help guys!
That is really strange. If you are looking into a new motherboard, I would suggest looking the Abit NF7-S Revision 2. This is a great board for $120. It offers many overclocking options and will give you incredible stability at insane speeds. I have had mine for a couple months now, and I love it. If you are a little strapped for cash, I hear that the Chaintech Zenith nForce2 Motherboard is a very good contender, and will also not disappiont you. Another option is the epox 8RDA+. They are all relatively cheap and will offer all you could ever want and need for overclocking...especially stability.

Thanks a bunch guys! I will be looking into a new motherboard somewhat soon...that is if I don't have to pickup a new car note :(
But thanks once again!
The 8RGA is a great board too everything the RDA has + VDD adjustment in the bios with no mod like theRDA, good luck.
