I have an AMD K6 400 on an ASUS P5 mobo with latest bios 1007a. Win 98SE. ATi 32 Meg Expert display card.
I have been trying to O/C this to 500 but when i boot up my monitor does not come on and my drive spin for a second then does nothing. I have looked at the manual and cannot se what is wrong. FSB is 100MZH and Mutli is set at x5..
I have gone back to original setting at moment ie X4.
Any ideas

500 is probably too much for your chip - you might need more voltage or better cooling to get there. Try a multiplier of 4.5, or raise the fsb instead, and see how high you can get.

when dealing with the k6 .... i have two suggestions based on my experience with them and 1) the fact they run hot and 2) they are touchy when it comes to overclocking them
1) make sure you board will allow you to goose the voltage up a considerable amount
2) before attempting number 1 drop your temps as much as possible .... (hints: remove heat plate carefully, lap the heatsink, use plenty of thermal paste, lastly ... fans fans fans)
best of luck

k6/2 550@700 (someday it might be stable ... i hope)

ya may want to try the voltage settings at 2.6 or 2.8, if you have them. I'm running a k62 450 at 550 stable and cool with votage at 2.8. (s'posed ta be 2.2 v.) Anything lower and I had the same problem. Also this is at 100 fsb. on 112 fsb I can only get 556 mhz. (fic 1st mainboard).
