View Full Version : I'm new to this stuff, anyone wanna help?
I've done my reading and all and have decided to go with these options to build my first computer(and hopefully get some overclocking)
A7V133
800-1000 T-bird
256 Crucial Ram PC-133
Hercules Prophet II Pro
Sb Live!
Blah blah other stuff
1.What heatsink do you guys recommend for overclocking which is also semi-easy to install(don't want to crush my cpu).
2. Also, anyone know when the 133fsb athlons are comming out?
3. Anything i should know before overclocking?(i think im going to do it with those funky dip switches)
Thank you

The alphas have good clips - I'm impressed by the one on my PAL6035, and I think the PEP66 has the same clip, plus it performs brilliantly. The FOP38 is one of the top (if not the top) socket A hsf, but I don't know what the clip's like.
A good hsf is only half of a good cooling system though - proper case cooling is a must. A few extra 80 or 120mm fans makes a huge difference - switching my fans off and covering the holes causes my temps to raise from 44C to 59C before the comp crashes (that's with the tbird and PAL6035).
Nothing else to say, other than it sounds like a killer system, hope you do well with it :-)
Oh, thats another quesiton i have. What kind of case should I get. I know i need at least 300 watt on the power supply, but cases just boggle me. Any recomendations?

well, in terms of cases and overclocking ... at some point you are going to want additional cooling and this means hacking into the case .... and if you are going to mod the case why pay a bundle and wait on shipping???
for me the Aopen HX08 (99.00US) with 300W ps and room for my second 250W AT ps right above it
