what is a shroud???

its used to maximise the airflow from a fan and increase its working area. If you just mount a fan directly onto a radiator your not likely to cool all the area of the radiator equally, or in some parts not at all. heres a simple paint diagram:

so basically its there just to provide a space for the air to take up and spread out evenly, and remove any "deadspots" caused by large fan hubs.

There was a thread here showing you how to make a shroud from aluminum.... I can't seem to find it..

Does anyone know where that sticky is?

The tupperware shroud is pretty cool, and cheap. The guide is in the Sticky section if you want to check it out.
