View Full Version : Problem
i have a problem i would like to overclock my athlon t-bird 850 higher then it is now but i want my system working corectly before i do it and whenever i put my soundblaster live xgamer into my comp it doest even start windows and when i take it out of the comp it works fine please help
i have a kt7 raid mb 128 pc150 ram and a gforce 2 32mb video card along with my modem 56 yay and i cant seem to figure out y windows wont work with the soundcard is in?
don't know if this will help or not but try putting your sound card in different PCI slots and see what happens.
what os do you have
did you have another sound card?? if so did you uninstall the old driver`s
check and see if you have the latest driver`s
i have win 98 and i d-loaded the newest version of the soundblasters drivers and still windows crashes i also tried diff slots on the mb nothing seems to work unless i change my hd cable on the mb from the raid slots (orange ones) to the reg slots but the raid ones are supposed to make it go faster and even when i put it into the reg slots i can get into windows but it locks up now and then
did you uninstall the old driver`s ( if you had an old sound card)
It seems to me from reading all over the place, that Soundblaster Live, either xgamer or MP3 is terrible for stable setup. I have tried two of them in different configurations, and had to remove them and use Aureal sound cards. It has something to do with design, in that they are IRQ hogs, and don't like to share. I know it's not always an option, but try different sound cards.
i was playin around with my comp all new parts and the problem so far was that the soundblasters install drivers for dos as well as windows and when this happens the card tries to take 4 irq's instead of 2 so if anyone else has this problem remove all of the drivers then only install the windows drivers and ull be all set but thanks everyone for your help :)

Hey kat i am thinking about getting a tbird 900 and o/c it to 1200 +. Will i have to get a tbird 1 ghz to get there like you did? Does yours go higher? What cooling are you using?
I also have the x gamer sound card and the installation went very smooth no problems (windows ME)
as to the 900 @1200 you might get a good chip and you might not just the luck of the draw
unless you do the unmentionable and buy a pretested chip

how many other pci devices do you have installed? You might try taking them all out, putting the sound card in and let it take the irq's that it wants, then put the rest of the cards in one by one, and let windows assign them irqs around the SB...
i have the sound blaster xgamer in pci #4 in my kt7raid, and so far it works great..
good luck!
i tried just installing the windows drivers and that didnt work it still locks up my comp when im not playing a game but if i playin a game its all good so ill try that thanks :)

a couple of ideas:
remove the SB drivers, and reinstall them.
i know my SB X-Gamer wont work in the slot under my AGP on my DFI ca64-SC, so i put it in #3 so theres room for AGP cooling. i havent really had too many problkems with this card other then that STUPID ****ING MFC42.DLL!!! it crashes when i restart, no matter what. i get this problem sometimes too. open the start menu, goto run and type in MSCONFIG
once that opens select the last tab on the list(think it's called startup) and uncheck Creative Launcher, Audio HQ, and NewsUPD.
also, try going into your BIOS and resetting the ESCD in the PCI PnP menu. that also might help. lemme kow whats happening if any of these work.
